My current outreach efforts include giving public talks, presentations about astronomy and light to school children and public audiences. I was honored to give a talk on the South Island of New Zealand, at the Otago Museum in Dunedin in December, 2019 and an invited public lecture at the University of South Carolina in April, 2019. Until August, 2015, I was a member of the steering committee for the International Astronomical Union's Office of Astronomy for Development, which was set up in response to the incredible success of the International Year of Astronomy.
I have given talks to groups at the International Dark Skies Park in upstate Michigan, on-line talks to remote classrooms at levels from elementary school to high school, Astronomy on Tap presentations. I was the MSU faculty sponsor for the 2024 trip to view the total solar eclipse just north of Austin Texas (SAW IT!)
